The Montclair Recreation Bulldogs 11U tackle football team won the 2025 North Jersey league championship on October 26th, defeating its rival, the Union Rams, by a score of 26-7 at Bell Stadium in Orange, NJ. It was the first time since 2019 that the Bulldogs football team won the league title.
The team then moved on to the Pop Warner Eastern Regional tournament to compete against teams throughout the Eastern region, which includes Pop Warner teams from Upstate NY, NY, NJ, Eastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland.
Before the playoffs, the Bulldogs elected to play up from Division 2 to Division 1, where more skilled teams participated throughout the tournament. A task that the Bulldogs were willing to take, knowing that it would be a challenge for the young team.
In the semifinal game, the Bulldogs won a thrilling overtime game versus the St James Royals from Red Bank, NJ. The Bulldogs blocked a game-winning field goal attempt by St. James to seal the victory, 25-24.
The Bulldogs then moved on to the Eastern Regional finals for the first time in the program's 18-year history. (. Est 2007)
The magical season came to an end in the regional final vs a very tough Downingtown (PA) team for a chance to move on to the National tournament in Charlotte, NC, in December.
What is most exciting about our team's success is that 16 of the 17 players are Montclair residents, and 12 of the 17 rostered players are also first-time players for tackle football. Ensuring that Pop Warner tackle football is safe for participants of all skill levels.
The Montclair Bulldogs are led by Head Coach Frank Best and staff and 17 participants ranging from 9-11 years of age. The participants in the Pop Warner program are unique as opposed to those from other programs. While they are taught about the values of competition, they are also maintaining their grades at a satisfactory level to attain the ultimate prize of being named North Jersey Champion!
